At the 1st of October 2008 the OTTO Group bought a large part of the mail order business of its Russian joint venture partner Direct Group. The OTTO Group bought the three core businesses units of the mail order group Nadom including the associated logistics PromoPost.
Nadom was founded in 1996 and is one of the dominant distance marketing forces in Russia with over 45 million mail ads and catalogues sent out annually. They delivers goods directly to more than 12 million clients across all territory of the Russian federation.
Nadom offer a wide range of products for home, living, kitchen/household and healths & beauty. The most successful products are household helpers, kitchen items in different price ranges. Seasonal products should complete the range of goods.
OTTO International and Nadom signed a contract about an trading business incl. product management for Nadom. The business with Nadom consists of two different fields of action. Firstly the bestseller items from Nadom which will be stated by them with the aim for OI to source exactly the same items. Secondly OI is working on the field of new products and product ranges for the catalogues of Nadom. Both actions are very complex processes which include the sourcing of the bestsellers or the developing of new products, the quality control, the complete logistics services from the manufacturer to the warehouse in Russia and the certification process for each item for the Russian market.
OI in Hamburg is working together very closely with OI in Asia for the access to the markets, with Kühne & Nagel for all logistics services and with SGS for the certification of the items to make Nadom a successful business for OTTO International.
